Gulfport Grand Prix Environmental Concerns

Protecting Boca Ciega Bay

The City of Gulfport Florida and the Gulfport Grand Prix appreciate the beauty of Boca Ciega Bay and have a vested interest in protecting the environment. The event plan has been reviewed by numerous environmental agencies and local organizations to insure the protection of the natural habitat and the animals that live here. During all high speed activity, the area will be monitored by a team of trained marine observers.

Based on land, the pier, boats and in a helicopter, the marine observer team will watch for manatees, dolphins and sea turtles. The lead marine observer will work directly with race control to immediately stop any racing if an endangered species is within 500 feet of race activity. Racing will not resume until the animals have left the area, of their own volition.
